Our Location
The orchards are situated in the Moslavina region within the commune of Velika Ludina. The wider area of Moslavina has an exceptionally high potential for fruit production development due to its climate and soil. For this reason, our land used to be the place of extensive cultivation of apple crops under the Agriculture and Food Conglomerate of Zagreb (PPK Zagreb).
Moslavina is characterized by its undulating landscape, and at an altitude of 100 – 200 mamsl with a slope of 3%, it a suitable environment for extensive apple production. Moslavina has a mild continental climate and, based on the data from the nearest weather station in Kutina, it has an average annual temperature between 10 and 11 °C. Average temperatures measured in the vegetation period a few decades ago were 17 °C, which makes this region ideal for apple cultivation.
Geographical location of the wider area indicates an undulating terrain – a terrain which slopes gradually. The micro-location of the parcels in question is such that it represents a very good basis for the planning and developing of orchards (outspread, open for air drainage and without micro-depressions).
The size and shape of the parcels with orchards are very important for the rationalization of all tasks involving planning, setting up, maintaining and exploitation of the orchards. Parcels in question are 5 ha or more in size and are thus ideal for economic production.
Relevant factors that need to be considered when assessing the terrain suitability are inclination (slope) and exposure of the terrain. The inclination of the terrain is measured by morphometric analysis of a particular plot of land. In the case in question, the terrain is flat with a moderate slope of 2 – 3% which enables a good surface runoff flow. The exposure of the terrain influences the sun exposure of the surface (including the orchard). Horizontal exposure of the surface in question makes it ideal for fruit production.
