Idared

Idared

Idared is an American apple cultivar first developed in 1935 by cross-breeding the varieties Jonathan and Wagener, while its production began in 1942. It is a highly productive crop cultivar and the most popular apple in Croatia. The fruits are large in size, round and slightly flattened in shape, light-red in color (partially or completely covered in red). The flesh is of a pale yellow color with a sweet-sour taste. It is crispy and succulent with a mild aroma. This apple is great for consuming fresh, preparing fruit salads, as well as cooking and baking.

It is self-sterile, therefore Golden Delicious, Jonagold and Fuji serve as good pollinators.

Idared is a late season variety. Fruits are harvested during the first ten days of October. It can be stored as far as June.
